TEHRAN (IQNA) – A ceremony was held in Tehran on Monday evening to honor the organizers and those contributing to holding the 37th edition of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s International Holy Quran Competition.

Addressing the ceremony, Mehdi Qarasheikhlu, head of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, presented a report on organizing this edition, noting that the competition was postponed in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As the pandemic did not go away, the competition was organized virtually, he said.

A total of 57 contenders made it to the final stage of the Quranic event, according to the official.

Some 9 million people followed the competition’s events via the cyberspace and TV, he added.

Qarasheikhlu also said that given the vaccinations against COVID-19, the next edition is expected to be in-person.

The 37th edition of the competition was held in March 2021.

The motto of this edition was “One Book, One Ummah”.

The Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization annually organizes the international Quranic event with the participation of Quran activists from various countries.
