The Takfiris are active in the name of religion and in order to confront them, a synergy between Shia and Suni media is needed.

Lebanese political analyst Tala Atrissi made the remark in an interview with IQNA, calling for creation of a media campaign in the Muslim world to confront Takfiris.

He regarded activities in social media as important for thwarting the spread of Takfiri ideology in the cyberspace.

Atrissi also said Takfris commit inhuman crimes and it is upon international organization and human rights organizations to prevent their crimes through political, legal, military and security measures.

He further highlighted the responsibility of Shia and Sunni scholars and sources of emulation to play their part in fighting the spread of Takfiri ideas.

He said the role of Sunni scholars in this regard can be more important and influential than their Shia counterparts.

Head of the Center for Strategic Studies in Lebanon said Sunni centers like Al-Azhar should take a clear stance against the actions of Takfiris and ban the institutes and schools that promote Takfiri thoughts.

He underlined that the Takfiri current is not a new phenomenon but it had existed before and had different tactics.

Atrissi said Takfiris have moved from the ideological field to the military sphere and are targeting all of their opponents.

He stated that different political elements, including the US presence in the region and Washington’s invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan are among the reasons why Takfiris have found the opportunity to enter the military field.

Asked about the reasons why Takfiris are focusing their activities in countries like Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, he said it was because the three countries were part of the axis of resistance.
