IQNA – An annual national awards ceremony has celebrated the achievements of Australian Muslims working in different fields and recognised the scholarly contribution of a Charles Sturt University Islamic researcher.

Dr Dzavid Haveric, an Adjunct Research Fellow at the Charles Sturt Centre for Islamic Studies and Civilisation, received the Australian Muslim Professional of the Year (2023) award at the 16th Annual Australian Muslim Achievement Awards (AMAA) in Melbourne this month.

The awards honour the diverse work of Muslims from various ethnic backgrounds and organisations across the country.

Dr Haveric has been a prolific scholar for several decades, Charles Sturt University website reported on Tuesday.

The award citation noted, Dr Haveric’s expertise in the history of Islam in Australia and his dedication to writing books on Islam and Muslim achievements are commendable.

Dr Haveric expressed his gratitude and humility upon accepting the award.

“I am very honoured to be chosen as the Australian Muslim Professional of the Year (2023), and I feel proud and humble,” Dr Haveric said.

“I am glad that my three decades of research and writing, community engagement and contribution to universities, museums, libraries and ethnic groups, as well as the media, are widely recognised.

“I dedicate my heart, spirit, knowledge and skills to all Australians, Muslim and non-Muslim.”

Dr Haveric said he hoped to produce more important books and research projects of national significance in the future.

“I will continue to contribute to this wonderful multicultural nation. Everything that is written in history should not last for a moment, but forever.

“I hope new generations will appreciate my legacy in recording Australia’s Muslim history.”

The awards are organised by the Mission of Hope as part of its commitment to foster excellence and highlight the positive impact of Australian Muslims across various fields of endeavour.
