Under the protection of Swedish police, Salwan Momika stomped on a copy of the Quran outside the Iraqi embassy in Stockholm today.
He also set an Iraqi flag on fire, Al-Madi website reported.
It came hours after protesters stormed Sweden’s embassy in Baghdad over the planned act of sacrilege.
Following the incident, Iraq expelled the Swedish ambassador.
The Iraqi prime minister also recalled his country’s charge d’affaires in Sweden, the government said on Thursday, and suspended the working permit of Swedish telecom company Ericsson on Iraqi soil, according to state media.
Earlier, Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani presided at an emergency meeting in response to the granting of a license by the Swedish government to burn the Quran and the subsequent storming of the Swedish embassy in Baghdad.
The Iraqi government condemned Swedish authorities for their provocative stance towards the beliefs and sanctities of others.
An Iraqi government source disclosed that Baghdad had warned Stockholm yesterday that if the Quran is burned again in Sweden, diplomatic ties would be severed.
