TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Israeli regime has intensified attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip since last night despite a UN resolution that urges for “immediate ceasefire.”

Gaza under Israeli attack

The General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted the non-binding resolution with 120 votes for, 14 against, and 45 abstentions, as the Israeli forces expanded ground operations and cuts off communications in Gaza.

The Jordanian-authored resolution calls for an “immediate, durable, and sustained ceasefire, and calls for immediate humanitarian aid, including a resumption of water, electricity and delivery – something that Israel has not allowed … of fuel.”

Palestine UN envoy embraces resolution

Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian ambassador to the United Nations, said that more measures are needed to be done to stop the war, because it meant “more killing of children, more killing of civilians, more destruction”.

The delegation, he maintained, would keep trying to get the UN Security Council to adopt a binding resolution calling for a ceasefire – the US and Russia have so far vetoed separate resolutions.

“We thank you as journalists in covering our story, because some of the media is blinded by the narrative is not fairly covering our story, please cover it completely, cover it comprehensively, cover the massacres and the crimes committed against our people in Gaza,” Mansour added.

Hamas, Palestinian Authority reaction

Hamas and the Palestinian Authority welcomed the UN General Assembly resolution and demanded it be implemented immediately.

“We demand its immediate application to allow the entry of fuel and humanitarian aid for civilians,” said a Hamas statement.

The rival, Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority’s foreign ministry said that as Israel’s campaign “reaches a new peak of brutality”, there was “a solid international position rejecting Israel’s unhinged aggression”.

Israeli envoy says UN has no legitimacy

Gilad Erdan says “this is a dark day for the UN and for mankind” after the UNGA passed the resolution, which urged a humanitarian truce in Gaza.

The Israeli ambassador promised that Israel would use “every means” in fighting Hamas.

“Today is a day that will go down as infamy. We have all witnessed that the UN no longer holds even one ounce of legitimacy or relevance,” Erdan said.

Gaza blackout

Meanwhile, Israel’s bombardment of Gaza has intensified after the military said it was “expanding operations” into the territory. Hamas says its fighters have confronted Israeli troops in various locations.

International media and aid agencies say they lost contact with staff in Gaza amid a near-total communications blackout.

More than 1 million Palestinian children and their parents are living through “pure horror” in the besieged enclave, says humanitarian group Save the Children.

At least 7,326 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since October 7. More than 1,400 people were killed in the Hamas attack on Israeli-occupied territories.
