LONDON (IQNA) – Former UK Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn has called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, where Israeli airstrikes have cut off communications and internet services for the besieged population.

Corbyn said on X that the people of Gaza were "dying in the darkness" and that history would not forgive those who valued Israeli and Palestinian lives differently.

"This unthinkable horror cannot be undone – and history will not forgive those who refused to treat Israeli and Palestinian lives with equal worth.

“Please, we need a ceasefire, now,” he pleaded.

The Israeli military said on Friday night that it had intensified its ground operations in Gaza. The military claimed it was targeting Hamas forces but UN General Assembly President Dennis Francis has slammed “indiscriminate” attacks on Palestinians as more than 7,326 Gazans, mostly women and children, have been killed in the last 22 days.

The conflict erupted on Oct. 7 when Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli-occupied territories, firing rockets and sending commandos by land, sea, and air. Hamas said it was responding to Israeli raids on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and settler violence against Palestinians.

Israel has since pounded Gaza with hundreds of airstrikes, destroying buildings, infrastructure, and civilian homes. Gaza's 2.3 million people have been facing a humanitarian crisis, with shortages of food, water, medicine, and fuel. Aid convoys have been unable to deliver enough supplies to meet the urgent needs of the population.
