BAGHDAD (IQNA) – A senior Iraqi cleric says the resistance of Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip has awakened the world.

Ayatollah Mujahid Seyyed Yassin Mousavi, Friday prayer leader of Baghdad, made the remarks while giving the Friday prayer sermon in the Iraqi capital.

The Arab countries are currently under the leadership of individuals who have not exhibited the courage to confront the United States and Israel, he said, adding, in fact, they have acquiesced and normalized their relations with the Zionist regime under American pressure.

The people of these countries have also failed as they have refrained from expressing their opposition to this normalization, added the cleric.

There are some Iraqi officials, including a few former prime ministers, who are advocating for the normalization of relations with the Zionist regime, Ayatollah Mousavi added.

He referred to the defeats suffered by Arab countries in their conflicts with the Zionist regime, adding that in the 1973 war, the Arab countries initially achieved success, but Anwar Sadat's signing of the Camp David Treaty turned this victory into a defeat and a more significant setback occurred with Yasser Arafat's signing of the Oslo agreement.

He emphasized that the Zionist regime has faced two major setbacks in its history. In 2006, despite American support, Hezbollah crushed the regime and the “era of victory” came.

The second setback was orchestrated by the youth of Gaza who entered the occupied territories and defeated the occupying soldiers. After seeing the resistance of the people of Gaza, the people of the world woke up as large demonstration erupted where all nations declared their aversion to Israel.

Ayatollah Mousavi said that the United States is now openly involved in managing the conflict against Gaza, which is evident in President Biden's statements. The Americans have deployed an aircraft carrier, thousands of soldiers, and hundreds of advisors to support the Zionist regime.

While the resistance axis countries have engaged in battle in a calculated manner and inflicted blows on the occupiers, other Arab nations like Jordan and Egypt have taken limited actions, such as expelling the Israeli ambassador and employing empty rhetoric.

Western countries, under the pretext of women's rights in Iran, lined up the whole world against the Islamic Republic and wanted to destroy Iran under this pretext, while today hundreds of women and children are being killed by Israeli bombs.
