2023 Moscow Int’l Quran Competition: Top Winners Awarded

MOSCOW (IQNA) – The 21st edition of Moscow International Quran Competition wrapped up on Friday as a representative of the host nation bagged the top prize.

 

Ayomiddin Fakhruddin from Russia won the title of the international competition which began on Wednesday. Iran’s Hossein Khani-Bidgoli and India’s Ismail Mohammed Yahya Maniar ranked next.

The award ceremony was held at the Cosmos Hotel's concert hall with a host of Russian officials in attendance.

The competition, which was organized by the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation and the Council of Muftis of Russia, attracted 31 contestants from the Middle East, Africa, Central and Southeast Asia.

They competed in the category of Quran memorization.

The University of Humanities Mohammed bin Zayed, one of the largest universities in the United Arab Emirates, also supported the event.

According to TASS news agency, Fakhruddin, 21, grew up in Aleksin, Tula region. He started learning the Quran by heart at the age of 6 and completed it at the age of 10. He is currently studying at the Islamic University in Medina and speaks Russian, Tajik, Arabic and English. He has been participating in various Quran recitation contests in Russia and abroad for 10 years.

The 20th edition of this event was held last November, following a two-year hiatus necessitated by the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The outcome of the previous competition saw Ahmed Kuzu, the representative from Turkey, securing first place, while the second place was claimed by Abdul Rahman Faraj from Egypt. Iran's Seyed Mostafa Hosseini achieved the distinction of a third-place finish.
