RABAT (IQNA) – The Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) issued a strong statement on Sunday, denouncing the Israeli airstrikes on two schools in the northern Gaza Strip as a "disgrace to humanity" and a "heinous crime".

Israeli attacks on Gaza

ISESCO, which is a subsidiary of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), expressed its solidarity with the Palestinian people and condemned the Israeli occupation for violating international laws and norms by targeting civilian facilities.

The Israeli military bombed the Al-Fakhoura School and the Tal Al-Zaatar School on Saturday, killing and injuring more than 200 Palestinians who had taken shelter there from the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza.

The Al-Fakhoura School is run by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and is located in the Jabalia refugee camp. The Tal Al-Zaatar School is in the town of Beit Lahia.

ISESCO said that the Israeli attacks on the schools were "barbaric actions" that showed the Israeli occupation's "disdain for the emerging positions around the globe" against its brutality in Gaza. The organization also said that the Israeli occupation was using its military machinery to attack children, schools, and hospitals, indicating a "clear and unprecedented setback in values and behavior."

The statement called on the international community, especially the UN Security Council, to take urgent and effective measures to stop the Israeli aggression and protect the Palestinian civilians and their rights.

It also urged the UNRWA and other humanitarian organizations to provide the necessary assistance to the victims of the Israeli attacks.

The Israeli bombing of the Al-Fakhoura and Tal Al-Zaatar schools sparked outrage and condemnation from various Arab and Muslim states and organizations, as well as human rights groups and activists.

The Israeli attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip since October 7 have killed at least 13,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

The attacks started after the Palestinian resistance group Hamas launched a surprise operation into the occupied territories in response to increased Israeli violence and desecration of al-Aqsa Mosque.
