IQNA – Several Muslim organizations in Canada have asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to support an international investigation into the Israeli regime’s war crimes in Gaza.

Canada Muslims urge PM to join ICJ Israeli war crimes probe

The request was made in an open letter signed by 250 Canadian civil society and community groups under the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM).

The letter urges Canada to back the proceedings at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) that have been initiated by five countries - South Africa, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Comoros and Djibouti - to examine Israel's atrocities in the Gaza Strip.

“Canada must support an impartial investigation into possible war crimes committed in Gaza,” NCCM said in a post on X.

"Canada must support accountability and justice. It is time to recognize ICJ jurisdiction on this issue," it added

The letter comes more than three months after the occupation regime launched a massive military aggression against Gaza following a surprise rocket attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7. The Israeli aggression has killed more than 23,000 Palestinians and wounded nearly 60,000 others, according to local health officials.

“Thousands upon thousands of civilians, including children, have been killed by the bombardment and invasion by the military of Israel,” the letter to Trudeau states.

“This is why you must support the latest case in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) which holds states accountable according to international law, that looks into the mass violence in Gaza.”
