IQNA – Patrice Beaumelle, the French football coach currently leading Mouloudia d'Alger in Algeria's premier football league, has embraced Islam.

The announcement came after Beaumelle, known for his tenure as Herve Renard's assistant coach, participated in a conversion ceremony at Djenane Mabrouk mosque in El Harrach, Algiers.

Following Friday prayers, he recited the Shahada, affirming his new faith, according to local reports.

A viral video capturing the moment at the mosque circulated online, where Beaumelle expressed his happiness and “honor” over his decision.

The Imam of the mosque also addressed the worshipers, noting that Beaumelle was inspired by the resistance of Palestinian people.

Beaumelle converted to Islam because he was influenced by the resistance of the Palestinian nation against Israeli occupiers’ aggression and attacks, he said.

The coach embraced Islam as he was searching for the secret to the resistance of Palestinians against Israeli crimes, the imam added.
