Hazrat Zahra; A True Muslim Woman

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Women play a very important role in the Islamic society and that is why in the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) words there is special attention to women and they have introduced examples of outstanding women.

Hazrat Fatimah Zahra (SA) is one of these exemplary women. She was the daughter of Muhammad (PBUH) and Khadijah (SA). She was worn in the 11^th year in the lunar Hijri calendar (632). Kawthar, Seddiqah, and Batoul are her names.

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) loved her so much that he said, “Indeed, Fatimah is a part of my body. Whoever hurts her, hurts me.”

The Prophet (PBUH) made this statement at a time when people considered it a disgrace to have a girl and when a baby girl was born, they buried her alive. After Hazrat Zahra (SA) was born, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) introduced the true status of girls and women to the people and after that, baby girls were no longer buried alive.

Hazrat Zahra (SA) was beside her father in all hardships and adversities. Even in battles, she cared for her father. After marrying Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS), her defending of Islam’s fundamental principles increased.

However, some enemies of Islam, in order to mock the Prophet (PBUH), considered his having a daughter as a flaw and called him the one without posterity. That is why Surah Al-Kawthar was revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Kawthar means abundant goodness and Quran interpreters have offered different views as to what it refers to. Some say is about the position of prophethood, while others think it refers to the Holy Quran, knowledge, a river in paradise, friends, etc. However, most Quran interpreters believe that Kawthar refers to Hazrat Zahra (AS) and her children.

In addition to the verses of this Surah, there are other verses in the Quran that highlight the status of Hazrat Zahra (SA). One of them is Verse 61 of Surah Al Imran, which is known as the Verse of Mubahilah and refers to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and his household. Hazrat Zahra (SA) is the only woman among them. Another one is Verse 33 of Surah Al-Ahzab, which is known as the Verse of Tat’hir (purification) and underlines the purity of the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) household.

Hazrat Zahra (SA) is an example and a role model for the active presence of women in the family and society. She accompanied and helped her father and her husband in hardships and adversities and had different social and political activities. If we want to know a true Muslim woman, reading the story of Hazrat Zahra’s (SA) life will certainly be the best choice.
