He made the remark in a meeting with the commander of Oman’s Navy, adding that the Tel Aviv regime seeks to forge legitimacy for itself by fomenting discord among Muslim countries, according to the Iranian Defense Ministry’s public relations office.
General Ashtiani said the presence of extra-regional forces complicates the security situation.
The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that regional security can be ensured through the cooperation of all regional countries, he stated.
The defense minister described a recent visit to West Asia by US President Joe Biden as provocative, saying it cannot be considered to be in line with creation of stability and sustainable security in the region.
He also said the West is after selling military equipment to regional countries under the pretext of creating security and relying on its Iranophobia project.
Elsewhere in his remarks, General Ashtiani hailed the growing ties and friendship between Iran and Oman.
The Omani official, for his part, said outsiders only pursue their own interests in the region, stressing the need for enhancement of cooperation among regional countries.
He also referred to joint naval drills of Iran and Oman and voiced readiness for more cooperation and exchange of experiences in ensuring maritime security.
