TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Quran recitation program was held in Cairo, capital of Egypt, with the participation of prominent qaris of the country.

It was organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Awqaf (Endowments), Al-Wafd daily reported.

Among the top qaris who recited the Quran at the event were Sheikh Mohamed Mahmoud Al Khasht, Sheikh Muhammad Taha al-Numani, Sheikh Ahmed Tamim al-Maraghi, Sheikh Walid Yahya al-Sharqawi, Sheikh Mohamed Fathullah Bibris, Sheikh Fathi Abdul Mun’im Khalif, Sheikh Abdul Latif al-Azib Wuhdan and Sheikh Yusuf Qassim Hilawa.

The Al-Rahma Mosque hosted the Quranic circle, which was also attended by the Egyptian Minister of Awqaf.

Head of Egypt’s Association of Quran Reciters Sheikh Mohamed Ahmed Salih Hashad in an address hailed the good reception of such programs by people.

He said the Awqaf ministry spares no efforts to serve the Book of God.

Hashad also said that 54 new qaris have been added to the list of Quran reciters who recite the Holy Quran in Cairo mosques.

Egypt is a country in North Africa with a population of around 100 million.

Muslims account for around 90 percent of the country’s total population.

Quranic activities are very common in the Muslim-majority Arab country and many of the Muslim world’s top qaris in the past and present have been Egyptian.

Over the past decades, Egyptian qaris have always played a major role in the art of Quran recitation in the world.
