TEHRAN (IQNA) – If we want our prayers to be answered, we must have faith in our King, namely God, rely on His knowledge and power and repent of our sins.

Praying to God

We read in Verses 193-194 of Surah Al Imran:

“(Those who remember Allah say:) Lord, we have heard the person calling to the faith and have accepted his call. Forgive our sins, expiate our bad deeds, and let us die with the righteous ones. Lord, grant us the victory that You have promised your Messenger and do not disgrace us on the Day of Judgment; You are the One who never ignores His promise.”

This is a wise and profound supplication and one of the most beautiful and rich supplications mentioned in the Quran that God has promised to answer.

The precondition for answering prayers is mentioned in this verse and that is relying on God and His power and knowledge and He is indeed a good and sure source of trust and reliance.

The last phrase in this supplication is: “let us die with the righteous ones.” Hence we pray to God to place us among the righteous and take us wherever they go.

This shows the importance of praying that we have the opportunity to accompany the righteous in this world as Mawlawi (Rumi) says in a poem that accompanying the righteous makes you one of them.

In that case, in the next world, too, we will be with the righteous as, according to a Hadith, on the Day of Judgment we will be associated with those that we love.

If we associate with goodness, virtue, beauty, justice, sincerity and truthfulness in this world, they will accompany us in the hereafter as well.
