TEHRAN (IQNA) – Tahddi is a word in Arabic that means bringing to a certain level. It also means inviting to challenge and challenging someone to do something.

Holy Quran

In the Quran, God challenges those opposing or doubting the Holy Book to bring a verse like it with the same level of eloquence and beauty:

“If you are in doubt of what We have sent down to Our worshiper (Prophet Muhammad), produce a chapter comparable to it. Call upon your helpers, other than Allah, to assist you, if you are true. But if you fail, as you are sure to fail, then guard yourselves against the Fire whose fuel is people and stones, prepared for the unbelievers.” (Verses 23-24 of Surah Al-Baqarah)

So God challenges unbelievers to seek help from anyone they want to produce verses like those of the Quran if they think Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has made up the verses of the Quran and they can do it too.

The unbelievers will certainly be unable to do it (as they have failed to do it for 14 centuries). Thus, they had better believe and acknowledge the fact that the Quran is the word of God, the Almighty, and no one other than God is capable of creating the like of it.

Now more than 1,400 years have passed since that challenge was introduced. while humanity has advanced in various fields of knowledge, science, literature, language and poetry and there have been many enemies who have sought to undermine Islam, no one has so far managed to meet the challenge. Of course there have been some people who have put together some words but what they produced were so weak and poor that no one has taken them seriously.

One may say the words of great poets and works of great musicians are like that too because they have created works of art that no one can imitate. The answer is that while no one has been able to produce a divan (poetry collection) like that of Hafez, there are poets who have managed to write a few poems as good as those written by Hafez.

But humanity has been unable to bring even a verse like that of the Quran. So those who still refuse to acknowledge the divine origin of the Quran are doing this just out of stubbornness and obstinacy.
