IQNA – The 9th international Quran recitation festival in Casablanca, Morocco, got underway Wednesday night.

The Communications and Social Development Society has organized the event, which include a competition on recitation of the Quran while observing the rules of Tajweed.

In the context of the recitation of the Quran, Tajweed is a set of rules for the correct pronunciation of the letters with all their qualities and applying the various traditional methods of recitation.

Nearly 400 Quran reciters from Morocco and a number of other countries are taking part at the Quranic event.

They compete in two sections for men and women and two age categories of children and adults.

Muhammad Yusuf, the secretary general of the Communications and Social Development Society, is the honorary president of the festival.

During the four-day event, renowned Moroccan scholar and Quran reciter Sheikh Mohammed al-Torabi will also be honored.

Morocco is a hub of Quranic activities in Northern and Western Africa. It holds various Quranic events and programs at the local, national and international levels.
